FOR THE COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA
The Sonrisa Apartments were developed for the Community Partnership of Southern Arizona, a pioneering leader in integrated health care in Arizona. CPSA’s network of healthcare programs comprehensively addresses both the physical and mental health needs for their members. In the spirit of innovative problem solving, CPSA sought to develop a residential infill project for single young adults with mental or behavioral challenges, and to provide integrated supportive services on site.
For many of the young residents this is their first time living on their own. The apartments where designed in the style of urban lofts utilizing open floor plans lofted ceilings, and tactile materials to create youthful and functional interiors. Common areas, such as public courtyards, a community center, and basketball court, support activities that bring residents together and create a sense of shared experience and community. Sonrisa is the first multi-family housing development in Southern Arizona to be awarded a LEED Platinum Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. This is the highest certification possible and recognizes the complex as a leading development in the area of sustainable design. The passive solar designed apartments feature high-efficiency insulation and mechanical systems, sustainable and renewable material selections, tank-less water heaters, low-low plumbing fixtures, energy-efficient lighting, and a water harvesting system.
